In line with the clients’ preference for old-world luxury, we injected a contemporary take to create a timeless and elegant design for this two-storey penthouse, selecting styles that are not too marked by current trends.

A sense of opulence is brought out by the choice of materials, such as the pearlescent warm grey cement plaster walls and vaulted ceilings that introduces a warm glow and a comfortable contrast with the cool marble floors. Timber panelling with groove detailing forms the backdrop for the owners’ art collection, while framing them for greater emphasis. In the dining and dry kitchen area, we made use of antique copper and bronze accents to complement the natural palette, thereby adding to the richness of textures and tones.

At the balcony, we introduced a bar, lounge and secondary dining table as a response to the clients’ love for alfresco living and hosting.

In contrast with the bright and airy ambience in the main common spaces, the family room is enveloped by dark wood veneer panelling to create a cosy and calming retreat at the end of a day. The masculine undertones extend to the study, where the clients can continue working in a homely environment brought about by dark timber and low ambient lighting - a conscious departure from the flatly and brightly lit corporate offices where they had earlier spent the day.

At the stairwell, curves meet rectilinear volumes, and honey-tone wood meets cool concrete skins. The mix of materials and geometry creates a visual and tactile experience as one journeys between the two levels of the penthouse.
