MARINA ONE SHOWFLAT

Preceding the design of this two-bedroom apartment show unit for Marina One Residences, we wanted this project to show our customer the possibilities and versatility of space usage, rather than taking the safe, conventional route of showing a study, children’s room or a second bedroom – things that a customer already knows and expects they can have, simply by looking at the floor plan.

Throughout the design, we drew inspiration from the ocean view that this development offers, and also incorporated boating elements through the use of timber. The timber walls of the dining room connect to the living room’s terrazzo wall, which is embedded with deep blue glass fragments. The wall in a bedroom-turned-library is profiled with curved timber and gradient-frosted glass panels, borrowing natural light from the balcony behind. In the master bedroom, a curved walnut veneer wall reaches upward behind the bed – the material and form conveying inspirations drawn from yacht cabin interiors.

The sinuous language continues into the furniture pieces, many of which were custom-designed by our studio specially for this project. The olive-shaped dining table enables chairs to turn towards one another, thereby facilitating eye contact and conversations; the sculptural media console and bookshelf add fluidity and movement to the living and library. Armchairs in the study are detailed with wooden structures referencing boat keels, while rounded outdoor chairs and coffee tables keep the design language of this unit consistent and coherent.
